The Adopt-a-Metre program is a special way to connect with the Rideau Canal, Ottawa’s UNESCO World Heritage Site. Your support will allow us to offer a carbon-neutral, “zero footprint” festival – a first of its kind in Canada!

How it works

for only $20. The proceeds from this program will be used to offset the carbon emissions generated during the planning and implementation of the Festival. Our goal is to honor the Rideau Canal and its fascinating history through fun and educational activities, without negatively impacting our environment.

Adopter Benefits
Adopting a metre will entitle you to the following benefits:

1. A personalized Colonel By E-Certificate of Adoption identifying your metre number and recognizing your support of the Rideau Canal
2. Your name will be displayed on the Adopt-A-Meter website page from the moment you adopt (Optional)
3. Your name will be displayed on a Heritage Metre Marker on the embankment of the Rideau Canal from July 31 to August 3, 2009
4. Your name will be listed in the Ottawa Citizen and Le Droit newspaper as a supporter
5. You will receive 2 Invitations to the Opening Night “Rideau Canal Festival Kick-Off Party” to be held on July 31, 2009
6. You will receive your own Metre Adoption card, entitling you to a multitude of benefits from our partners during the Festival and on a year-round basis
7. You’ll get first right of adoption renewal on your metre next year
